Notice to Magellan Applicants Who Are California Residents
Magellan Health, Inc., its subsidiaries and affiliates (Magellan), collects personal information (PI) from applicants in connection with their candidacy with Magellan. This notice identifies the categories of personal information that may be collected, the sources of such information, how Magellan may use the information it collects, and what, if any, rights you may have under applicable law.
Information Collected
The categories of personal information Magellan may collect about Magellan applicants includes:
- Personal identifiers such as a full or real name, alias, postal address, unique personal identifier, Internet Protocol address, email address, account name, social security number, physical characteristics or description, other similar identifiers.
- Personal information such as signature, telephone number, passport number, driver’s license number, state identification number, education, employment and employment history, bank account number, medical information, health insurance information.
- Protected classification characteristics and traits such as age, race, color, ethnicity, citizenship, marital status, veteran status, familial status, disability, and gender identity.
- Biometric information which could be genetic, physiological, behavioral, or biological characteristics or activity patterns, such as fingerprints and voiceprints.
- Audio, electronic and/or visual or similar information, captured via phone systems, virtual meeting platforms and security video recordings.
- Professional or employment information such as a resume with current or past job history, tax forms, background check results, and references, performance evaluations, disciplinary actions, training records, requests for accommodations and payroll records.
- Non-Public education records such as educational institution transcripts and records.
- Inferences from PI collected such as profiles reflecting abilities and aptitude testing results.
Magellan obtains the categories of personal information listed above from the following categories of sources:
- Directly from Magellan applicants, such as from employment applications, resumes, benefit applications, and direct deposit applications.
- From third parties who know about Magellan applicants, such as references placed on employment applications, companies performing background checks, or companies performing drug tests.
Magellan may use or disclose the personal information we collect about Magellan applicants for one or more of the following business purposes:
- To evaluate job applicants/candidates for employment or promotions.
- To obtain background checks and drug tests on job applicants and employees.
- To render decisions related to employment, including decisions to hire, terminate, promote, demote, transfer, suspend or discipline.
- To carry out compliance investigations pertaining to applicant conduct.
- To identify and debug or repair errors that impair existing intended IT and systems functionality.
- For surveys, research, analysis and strategic development to implement, maintain and promote an engaging work experience at Magellan.
- For employee and facility security as well as detecting security incidents and protecting against fraudulent or illegal activity.
- For quality assurance through verification and maintenance of company issued documents.
Magellan may disclose the personal information of Magellan applicants to a third party for a business purpose. In the preceding twelve (12) months, we have disclosed the following categories of personal information pertaining to Magellan employees for a business purpose:
- Personal identifiers as described in the “Information Collected” section above
- Personal information as described in the “Information Collected” section above
- Protected classification characteristics as described in the “Information Collected” section above
- Biometric data as described in the “Information Collected” section above
- Professional or employment-related information as described in the “Information Collected” section above
- Third parties who perform background checks or drug testing
- Third parties who may be in merger/acquisition negotiations
- Third parties who are government agencies to whom we are required to report certain data in the preceding twelve (12) months, Magellan has not sold any personal information.
The California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) applies to Magellan applicants who are California residents. The CCPA provides California residents with specific rights regarding their personal information. This section describes the rights of California residents under the CCPA and how to exercise those rights.
Access Rights
You have the right to request:
- The categories of personal information collected about you.
- The categories of sources for the personal information collected about you.
- The business purpose for collecting or sharing personal information about you.
- The specific pieces of personal information collected about you.
- The categories of third parties to whom personal information was disclosed for a business purpose.
- The categories of personal information that each category of recipient obtained for a business purpose.
You have the right to request that we delete any of your personal information that we collected from
you and retained, subject to certain exceptions. You also have the right to request that we correct
inaccurate personal information about you.

You may only make such a request twice within a 12-month period.
Responding to Requests
All requests must be completed within 45 days of receipt. If we require more time (up to 90 days), we
will inform you of the reason and extension period in writing. Any response we provide will only
cover the 12-month period preceding receipt of the request. The response we provide will also explain
the reasons we cannot comply with a request, if applicable.
