Job Description

The Formulary Management (FM) Team of MagellanRx supports the clinical and operational formulary needs of various lines of business such as Commercial, MCO, and Managed Medicaid. The team manages the implementation and maintenance of formularies on a weekly basis and ensures that adjudication and related publications reflect the latest changes.

The Formulary Management Pharmacist is a fundamental member of the team who will participate in many aspects of the team’s functions. The Formulary Management Pharmacist will play an integral part of monitoring new drugs and maintaining the operational aspects of formularies primarily.

Job Functions:


Manage formularies and criteria for the purposes of adjudication and publishing on prescription drug lists and websites in line with the decisions from the drug review committees and in response to client requests.

Monitor for new drugs on the weekly drug file and apply appropriate drug statuses to formularies.

Ensure quality of the formulary by performing regular reviews of various available reports. This will require a working knowledge of common pharmacy data points with intermediate to advanced analytics skills with MS Excel and other comparable software.

Manage communications for members, clients, prescribers, pharmacies, and internal stakeholders regarding formulary changes in the form of emails, traditional mailings, and publications.

Research and explain clinical and business aspects of drugs and drug strategies to internal business partners. Participate in internal meetings to support and present relevant information as needed. Provide subject matter expertise to troubleshoot formulary related matters.

Function as the liaison between many MRx groups to ensure end to end formulary management.

Manage documentation and actionable items from meetings. Participate in documenting team procedures and create checklists that capture best practices for the operational work the team performs.

•Travel up to 5% per year.

Minimum Qualifications

•Education: Pharmacy (RPh or PharmD degree)
•Work Experience: Minimum 1 year pharmacy experience in retail, mail order, health plan, PBM or similar setting as a pharmacist or pharmacy resident.

•Licenses and Certifications: Licensed RPh or PharmD
