Job Description

Seeking an experienced graphic designer to join our Creative Solutions team located on-site in Crystal City, VA. The duties of this position will primarily be in support of the Strategic Communications (STRATCOM) team for a single program, additionally providing support to internal and other external clients as needed. Much of the work will focus on developing conceptual graphics and outreach materials.
Samples of your work are required with application—please provide in the format of an online portfolio or PDF. Your portfolio must showcase a wide spectrum of capabilities and style, as well as include a selection of work that reflects skills that are transferable to a corporate environment. Portfolio and experience must demonstrate the ability to work from concept to completion and meet requirements set by clients.
  • Conceptualize and design graphics that convey concise concept, storylines, relationships, data, hierarchy, processes, etc.
  • Conceptualize, design, develop, support, and finalize print projects that meet client requirements—to include informational and outreach materials (e.g., posters, brochures, slick sheets, etc.)
  • Rework existing print materials and graphics, both conceptual and informational, to increase aesthetic value and apply or maintain consistent branding
  • Develop and maintain brands and brand identities—involving logo design, aesthetic development, and application of branding
  • Ensure all materials produced meet quality standards and corporate or client branding guidelines
  • Use a high attention to detail to review work for errors and identify places for improvement/refinement; complete corrections
  • Prepare work for review in either digital or printed presentation; ensure files are assembled in a logical and aesthetically pleasing format, to include supporting text when required
  • Prepare files for print and provide instruction for printing (to vendors or clients) to ensure products are completed accurately
  • Frequently collaborate with corporate leadership, project/program managers, and program team members; provide guidance and reasoning to clients
  • Participate in meetings as requested by the client
  • Understand program mission and needs of audience and apply that understanding to designs
  • Evaluate successes and opportunities for improvement
  • Stay on top of industry trends
  • Adhere to AFSC policies and procedures

Other Job Requirements


  • Government/contractor experience is a plus; ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines is a must
  •     Possess strong organizational skills regarding team resources and structure, project management, and self management
  •     High attention to detail 
  •     Proficient in graphic programs (Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, and Adobe Acrobat on Mac platform)
  •     Possess at least intermediate skills with Microsoft Office programs (PowerPoint, Word, Excel)
  •     Possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written; must be able to describe design choices and conceptual ideas efficiently and professionally
  •     Ability to work on a project independently or collaborate as part of a team initiative
  •     Experience building and maintaining a standard of excellence in a team-based environment
  •     Capable of working with little direction, but also able to ask questions and reach out for guidance and mentorship
  • Assess and manage overall workload, setting deadlines and controlling expectations for individual tasks
  • Adhere to tight deadlines and time sensitive tasks

  • At least five years’ experience in commercial product design and five years’ experience working with the military as a military member, civilian, or contractor.
