Job Description

The Vice President, Business Development and Managed Care is responsible for developing and enhancing relationships with health plans and potential business partners. This position maximizes the company’s revenue opportunities by supporting its interests in contract negotiations and the implementation and management of managed care relationships, and identifying and proposing new business ventures. It is responsible for: contributing to strategic business planning; strategy implementation; and planning, organizing, directing and conducting the negotiation and implementation of managed care and other business agreements with current and prospective purchasers of rebate contracting and healthcare services. This includes such payer entities as HMOs, PPOs, BHOs, other hospitals and healthcare systems, health homes, and other healthcare entities.

Leads relationships and contract negotiations with multi-market health plans (municipal, regional, statewide, multi-state or system-wide) as well as being directly involved in projects consistent with current business strategies and innovative projects designed to increase the value of Magellan Rx Management’s services by collaborating with other internal SBUs, organizations and/or health plans in new ways.

Ability to solicit, negotiate, implement, and maintain a long-term referral-generating relationship with managed care organizations. Must possess the ability to generate acceptable gross profit margins and to maximize revenues. 

Manages all contact with managed care plan representatives. Develops and maintains relationships at the C Suite level within managed care organizations. Identifies needs and in close collaboration with the Clinical department, develops programs in response to those needs.

Responsible for ensuring effective coordination and collaboration between managed care organizations and other departments such as Finance, Legal, Operations, Information Services and Quality Assurance departments, as well as other Magellan SBUs.

Attends conferences and meetings to educate MCO's to the programs, services and outcomes offered by Magellan Rx Management.

Communicates and prepares reports on activity, changes in industry, new business opportunities, statistical information/ market share.

Maintains good rapport and cooperative working relationships with clients. Represents the organization in a positive professional manner in the community.

Ability to organize and prioritize time and schedule to maximize exposure to key customers. 

Ability to prospect, identify and qualify new managed care opportunities.  Capable of identifying and focusing on priority accounts.

Responsibilities

Knowledge of public sector (Medicaid/Medicare/CHIP) policy and practice at State and local government level. Experience in related lines of products and services. Proficiency in applying and interpreting rules associated with Medicare regulations.

10+ years business development and marketing experience, preferably with large, complex health care product / services contracts.Ability to develop strategic marketing plans, set and monitor associated budgets, and track results to plan. Experience setting priorities for, and managing, a sales team across various lines of business lines. Established track record of profitable revenue-bearing account closures. Strong negotiation skills. Experience working with prospects and customers to package, price, present and close business in line with company priorities. Established contacts and relationships with potential target customers.
