Magellan RX Mnagement

The Magellan Healthcare team has extensive clinical, policy, and operations expertise in managed care and in behavioral health/specialty care.

We’ve used our expertise to develop and improve programs for a wide variety of special populations including older adults, those who are homeless, those living with anxiety and depression and dependents of active duty military personnel. Buyers for our services include employers, health plans, state Medicaid agencies, and federal agencies.

Our managed care business is made up of individual health plans that manage Medicaid and Medicare products. Our person-centered programs meet members where they are to help them live their best lives.

Our behavioral health/specialty business offers employee assistance, wellness and family life programs, administers state behavioral health and children’s programs, and offers utilization management programs that improve quality and deliver measurable savings.

Magellan Rx Management is a next-generation, full-service pharmacy benefit manager (PBM) that moves beyond the basic services to help our customers and members solve complex pharmacy challenges. We do this by connecting them to the people, technology and information they need to make smarter healthcare decisions.

As experts in pharmacy management, we discover new and better ways to help clients manage the rising cost of specialty medications, ensure members adhere to their medications, and provide prescribers access to the resources they need to make more informed health decisions for their patients.

So how do we live out our purpose as individuals working at Magellan?

Stephanie, Manager of Clinical Pharmacy Operations

For starters, it looks like Jane, a Care Manager who personalizes health plans for our members. She recalls one case when she helped an elderly couple to “live life on their own terms.” The husband had been diagnosed with dementia, and as time went on he needed more support and care. However, his wife was determined that he remain at home with her so that they could spend as much time together as possible. “As his needs increased, I adjusted the support he needed quickly. He stayed in his home until the day he died, right where he (and his wife) wanted to be.”

It also looks like Stephanie, a Manager of Clinical Pharmacy Operations, who goes above and beyond to meet the specific needs of our members: A patient suffering from Cystic Fibrosis was out of medication and his local pharmacy was unable to get any in stock due to backorder,” Stephanie explained. She took it upon herself to phone multiple other pharmacies until she found one that had the medication, transfer his prescription, and get it filled. “He started crying when I called him back to tell him what I’d done.”


Cari, Military Family Life CounselorAnd, it looks like Cari, a Military Family Life Counselor, who spends her days supporting the children of military families through counseling and guidance. “Military family children move many times. They change schools often. They deal with feelings of loss when a parent deploys,” Cari explains.
